John Boyle O’Reilly Council was the 85th Knights of Columbus council, founded January 7, 1894. Our twenty-eight charter members came from all walks of life … two medical doctors, a blacksmith, a hack livery stable proprietor, a postmaster, an undertaker, and a druggist.
This legacy has drawn many generations into a brotherhood to lead, serve, protect, and defend. We share a desire to be better husbands, fathers, sons, neighbors, and role models, putting charity and community first.
A foundation of our council is patriotism and service to our country. Many members served in the World Wars and subsequent engagements. Of particular note is LT Vincent Lee, USMC, who died in Vietnam. LT Lee was awarded the Silver Star posthumously for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving in combat operations in Vietnam in November 1969.” The flagpole in front of the council hall is dedicated to his memory.
The Council Hall has been the center for our operations since 1962, and is used frequently by other nonprofit charitable groups as well. Notably, Thanksgiving dinner has been hosted at the hall for over 20 years. This versatile hall has proven to be a real asset to our Council and community.
For over 128 years, we have been proud of our volunteer work, charitable contributions, and affiliation with St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. Consider membership if you would like to participate in this legacy.
